CROATIA: MODRIC EXTENDS APPEARANCE RECORD

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has extended his lead at the top of the list of players with the most appearances for Croatia on the senior international stage.The former Dinamo Zagreb and Tottenham Hotspur playmaker extended his record when he led Croatia out against France in the UEFA Nations League last week.Modric scored the winner in the fifth minute to lead Croatia to an impressive away win over the world champions.


Luka Modriccame into the France game with 151 appearances for Croatia and 17 more than retired right-back DarijoSrna on 134 appearances. The Real Madrid midfield maestro extended his record over Shakthar Donetsk legend Srnato 18 with appearance number 152 against the reigning UEFA Nations League champions. During his time with the Croatian seniorĀ  team, Srna scored 22 goals in 134 games over a 14-year period from 2002 to 2016. Luka Modric also has 22 goals, but in 18 more appearances.

Stipe Pletikosa is third on the list of players with the most appearances after he played 114 games before his retirement eight years ago. The shot stopper holds the record for the most clean sheet for the Croatian senior team with 54. He played for the team over a period of 15 years from 1999 to 2014.

Amongst the current players in the Croatia team, new Tottenham Hotspur player Ivan Perisic hasĀ  the most appearances. Perisic is fourth on the list with 113 appearances scoring 32 goals in the process. He has the most goals amongst the active players. The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan star has more goals than all the players in the history of Croatian football except Mario Mandzukic and DavorSuker.Mandzukic scored 33 goals in 89 games for his country before he retired four years ago, while Suker scored 45 goals in 69 games for his country.
