MODRIC OPENS UP ON FRIENDSHIP WITH RONALDO

Croatian maestro, Luka Modric recently wrote his name in the history books, becoming the first player to beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the FIFA Best Men’s Player Award in over ten years.

The Real Madrid midfielder has enjoyed a phenomenal calendar year which has seen him win his fourth Champions League title, advance to the final of the 2018 World Cup and win the Golden ball at the same tournament.

Despite beating his former Real Madrid teammate to the UEFA accolade, the Croatian insists he still maintains a good relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“We spent six wonderful years at Real Madrid, in which we developed friendship and said mutual respect”, he said, speaking to Spanish paper AS.

“Now he’s gone and we keep in touch, sending messages. Although some people are trying to say this is not the case, I can say that we are still maintaining good relations.”

Real Madrid has really missed the services of their former main man, Cristiano Ronaldo this season as the goals have dried up since his departure.

They just managed to recover from a wretched run of four matches without a win or even scoring a goal in Sunday’s 4-2 win against Celta Vigo.

Modric also claimed that Raphael Varane, Antoine Griezmann, KylianMbappe, Ronaldo and Messi would have been worthy winners of the Golden ball.

When asked if he would like to play alongside miniature midfielder, Lionel Messi, he gave a very interesting response.

I play against him, not with him. Obviously, Messi is one of the best players in the world, but I will never play with him,” Modric said.

He also revealed that one player he would have liked to play alongside is Zinedine Zidane as he grew up watching the former French midfielder set the football world alight.
