MODRIC SHOWS HIS CLASS

The former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has been one of the highly criticised players at Real Madrid this season. The Croatian midfielder was brought to the club for £ 35 million, but he has been extremely poor.

However, he more than proved his class by helping Real Madrid progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions league. He scored the first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over Manchester United, which helped Real Madrid progress 3-2 on aggregate. Madrid were in danger of being one of the competition after they were trailing 2-1 on aggregate as a result of the Sergio Ramos own goal in the first half.

However, two goals – scored by Ronaldo and Modric – in the space of 12 min helped them get a victory and consequently progress to the next round.

Incidentally, this was the first goal scored by the 27-year-old in 21 appearances this season. Modric has said that considering both the matches, he is of the opinion that Madrid deserved to progress into the next round. The Spanish club, though, were greatly helped by the red card to the Portuguese international Nani. Mourinho’s team will be facing the likes of Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals. Unibet have made them one of the two favourites on their online betting site.

“I’m happy with my goal but I’m even happier because we qualified. It was a tough game, but we showed great resolve to come back after we were chasing the match. I think that if you consider both games, we deserve to go through. To be really honest, I did not see Nani’s red card, but if the referee said so, we can’t oppose him,” said Modric. The Real Madrid fans will be hoping to see the best of Modric on a weekly basis. Madrid have now managed to win the last five encounters in all competitions, which includes two matches against Barcelona.
