MODRIC: COUNTER ATTACK STYLE WRECKED JUVE

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric opines that it was their counter attacking style that helped them wreck Juve in the final of the Champions League.

Juve were expected to put up a stronger performance that they did at the final in Cardiff.

The game was hard fought and balance in the first half. However the second half was the game changer as Real ran off as eventual winners.

“[Zinedine] Zidane found the weak point of the Bianconeri defence, and we prepared for the final all week with that in mind. The Juve defenders are fantastic when they’re in position, but not if you catch them on the counter attack,” Modric said.

The player added that unlocking the defence helped them score three goals out of the four in the final. He gave Zidane the credit for the magic that rattled the opposition’s defence, ending in Real Madrid’s third Champions League title in four years.

Modric himself was brilliant in the encounter, providing key passes that helped Madrid retain the title. There are even reports that Juventus are planning a raid of the Croatian this summer. However, he seems focused at Santiago Bernabeu where he is a regular, well paid and winning titles.

Juventus would hope for another chance at the continental title after reaching two finals in three years. They lost the last final horribly in the hands of Barcelona and now in the hands of another Spanish football giant. Their local dominance is unrivalled but they cannot seem to replicate such in Europe.
