MODRIC IN MENTORSHIP ROLE FOR PLAYER

 

Journalist Carlos Forjanes of Spanish newspaper AS recently revealed that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is using veteran player Luka Modric in a mentorship role for hot prospect Martin Odegaard at the club. Zidane has a lot of faith in Odegaard who’s back at the club this season after a successful spell at Real Sociedad last term.


Martin Odegaard was given a start in the first game of the season for Real Madrid, an away game at the home of surprise league leaders Real Sociedad. The Norwegian international couldn’t do much about the match which ended in a goalless draw.His Real Madrid progress was stopped by an injury recently but the 21-year-old has returned to action.

Martin Odegaard impressed in the last league game, a 1-1 draw at Villarreal who are in third place on the Spanish La Liga table at the moment. The Villarreal game took place last weekend and it preceded the impressive away win over Inter Milan in the Champions Leagueon Wednesday night.

Odegaard was used in the Inter Milan game from the start as Real Madrid boosted their chances of sealing a spot in the next round with the win over 10-man Inter Milan. The 21-year-old played 58 minutes before he was replaced by Brazilian international Casemiro. Real Madrid took a first half lead through an Eden Hazard penalty after a foul committed by Inter Milan midfielder Nico Barella.

The Nerazzuri were reduced to ten men in the 33rd minute after Chilean international Arturo Vidal was sent off after two yellow cards for insulting centre referee Anthony Taylor. The two yellow cards were awarded in quick succession.

Real Madrid took advantage of their numerical superiority over their hosts with Brazilian international Rodrygo forcing former Real Madrid teammate Achraaf Hakimi into an own goal shortly after he was introduced into the game as a 58th minute substitute for Mariano.
